Biography

Introduction
Born in 1967 in the small town of Navolato, Sinaloa, Mexico she discovered her passion for the arts and classical music early in her life. Thus, inspired her to study theater, pottery, music and painting. By the age of 15, a great painter Hermilio Soto Miller became her teacher and mentor. It was then when she was exposed to, and influenced by great artists such as Vincent Van Gogh and Henri Matisse. Carmen moved to Canada in 1989 where she began to explore Pre-Hispanic folk art combining symbolism, poetry and color. History and culture of the native Aztec and Maya people of North America are strongly reflected in her art. Her paintings also display a profound spiritual meaning of her life journey and those around her.
In the summer of 2005 she graduated from the Design Essential Program at BCIT and Emily Carr Institute, thanks to the support of a great friend, Moira Anderson. Carmen was a former founder and member of the Steveston Art Society (S.A.S.) collaborating with local artists to create, support and promote community art activity. She is still an active member of the art community displaying her art at local events.
Carmen is focused on promoting her roots and creating a strong brand for herself, by combining her art and graphic design. Currently she is working on a series of unique collectable items that make her art accessible for anyone that falls in love with her style.
